The 3-tiered block of scores is fairly reflective of the playoff picture (with one exception), with the Football Team closing these ranks down as the top team. For the most part, the rich got richer compared to last week, and the teams in the middle of the pack get one last chance to validate their rank.

It shouldn't be a surprise to see a new #1 in the Power Ranks this week. The PS formula was tested beyond its previous limits with that massive outburst from the Losers in Week 9. Overall, there were a few unexpected climbs/falls. The Power Scores remain fairly anchored other than some tumultuous tides in scoring, and the cream continues to rise to the top.

The wide range of scores in Week 7 created another shake-up in the ranks, though the teams at or near the top deserve to be there. Overall, Power Scores are down. The Football Team take their spot at the top after threatening for several weeks. The Threat make the biggest jump (3 spots), while some teams took measurable hits to their Score based on last week (and expectations for Week 8).

The rankings are starting to settle in to a more comfortable groove, but we definitely had a notable shake-up, as the undefeated Addicts finally claimed the top spot. Their Power Score has crept up over the last couple of weeks, as has the Football Team's. WFT overcoming bye week fill-ins and GK overcoming Taylor's absence were rewarded with a PS increase. Pretty tight race in the top 3, as the cagey Cheetahs hover close by.

The formula rewarded some teams despite a loss, with an eye on returning players for Week 7 as a sign of good things to come. It punished some teams slightly for bye weeks in Week 7, as that does impact short term team strength. And yes, the Bruisers bounced off the ceiling after a tough Week 6. Extreme scoring variances from week to week will have that effect. 

Overall, the league is seeing lower weekly scores, so the net average for Power Score has dropped along with it (now 8.4). The functional inputs for determing the score are distilled into a 7-10 range, so any score or average below 8.5 should be an indicator of teams struggling more than excelling (at least for the week).

Based on this week's results, the custom formula only gave 3 teams a bump in their power score (a number with the purpose of striking a balancing act between short-term trends and long-term projections). I had to make a small tweak to the formula, so the score changes might be a little skewed compared to Week 4. But now they're working as they should. 

We did see a shake-up in the top 5, and the Cheetahs are now atop the list.

As usual, these ranks won't look much like the standings, but should provide additional perspective on where everyone is from a current strength perspective. A touch of recency bias helps teams who excelled the previous week feel better about the moment as well. After all, it is a weekly ranking. Over time, it will become clear if the formula is complete shit or actually works as an indicator of power. 

Teams with an improved score from last week are highlighted in green. That should usually correspond with an increased ranking, but a counterbalance is achieved by some teams not playing up to their full strength on a given week. This means you could win your matchup and still fall in the score/rankings if your team didn't excel, just as you can move up while technically losing.
